Job Title: Medical Writer

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: Lyndhurst, NJ

Level: Mid-Level

Reports To: VP, Independent Educational Initiatives


Key objectives:

  • To conceptualize and write high-quality digital content for the purpose of educating healthcare professionals and patients on unmet needs in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases
  • To transform scientific data into creative, thought-provoking storylines that engage target audiences and enable growth of our disease education digital properties


Primary responsibilities:

  • Research, write, edit, and proof medical content to the highest scientific and grammatical standards for medical education and communications materials, primarily digital (website publication) and print (slide decks, patient education materials, manuscripts)
  • Develop, manage, and maintain digital content for publishing on educational websites
  • Write effective headlines, taglines, and calls to action
  • Professional liaison with HCP faculty advisors
  • Create and maintain an editorial calendar, and contribute to the development of the content strategy
  • Attend relevant medical and society meetings to report on new data (occasional travel required)
  • Accurately reference and annotate all work
  • Edit and proof copy on staging servers prior to publishing
  • Test content and website pages for layout, functionality, and user experience
  • Assist with the creation and execution of the marketing strategy, including email campaigns and social media promotion
  • Assist with the development of creative banners and vignettes to promote content offerings
  • Assist with the execution of strategies to grow audience share via organic search (SEO), paid search, registration/opt-in campaigns, and social media outreach
  • Participate in strategic discussions for account growth
  • Other tasks and duties may be assigned as business needs dictate


Requirements

Job qualifications:

  • Ability to digest complex scientific and clinical information, and write compelling content for diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals and patients
  • Demonstrative knowledge of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular/cardiometabolic disease therapeutic areas, markets, audience(s), and key messages
  • Attention to detail: style/consistency, grammar, syntax, scientific accuracy, layout, design, testing, etc
  • Creativity—in your voice, your approach, and your writing
  • Excellent scientific writing style and ability to adapt to target audiences
  • Excellent writing, project/time management, organizational, and interpersonal/communication skills
  • Confident and decisive, determined and committed
  • Ability to deliver projects to specification, budget, and timelines

Education/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years’ medical/scientific writing and editing experience in an agency or comparable environment
  • Experience writing on diabetes and CV/cardiometabolic disease, specifically for the web, preferred
  • Thorough understanding of healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong knowledge of multichannel communications
  • Experience writing for web while keeping up-to-date on editorial best practices online and across social and mobile channels
  • Experience writing email campaigns, and refining content and subject lines based on campaign performance
  • Working knowledge of web (eg, Google Analytics, Google AdWords) and email marketing campaign tools a plus
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and basic HTML a plus
